ParticipantThe second time through the Real Prediction, as luck would have it, the matching card was in the set of cards to be counted out at the bottom of the deck. As an example, say the top card was the 5H, the 5th card from the bottom was the QS, and the bottom card was the QC. Taking the QC out of the deck as the prediction would cause the prediction to fail! The QS would no longer be the 5th card from the bottom (it would be the 4th).
I played around for a bit and came up with the following idea. I’m curious to know if there is a better way. Have I made it over-complicated?
Take the matching card to the 6th card from the bottom (one more than the value of the top card). Let’s say the 6th card is 7D. Take out 7H as the prediction. If the 7H is not in the bottom 6 cards, then follow the regular process until counting out the five cards for the reveal. Count 5 cards, and then use the next card (which will be the 7D) and show it matches your prediction (7H). If the 7H is also in the bottom 6 cards, then revert to the usual reveal – count to the 5th card.

Eddie McCollKeymasterHi Mark
If the spectator has handed you the shuffled deck and you are in the position you mentioned , just casually hand the deck back to the spectator and ask them to cut the deck , then take the deck back and go into the trick . You could ask them to shuffle again just to make sure the cards mixed properly .
Cheers

JackKeymasterI would personally just cut the deck – at this point you are just looking for a prediction – so they don’t care about the order of the cards so much. So if during the search for my prediction I realise the ordering prevents the effect working I would cut a new card to the top and start again.
Also for simplicity I would also do this if the top card was below 5 or a picture card – just so the random card feels even more impossible!

ParticipantI believe Real Prediction can be found in the Rufus Steele book The Last Word on Cards.

JackKeymasterRikesh,
Looking great buddy. The false shuffle stuff is a nice addition although I would perhaps keep it to just offering to cut the each packet if they wish. The only thing to ask is what state do you want them to believe the deck is before you offer that choice – they should believe that the order of the cards is random and where they stopped changed the cards – so offering a shuffle at that point should be moot.
A couple of subtleties to think about in terms of method – when you look through the pack and remove a card, keep the deck face up from that point on – don’t turn it face down into your hand only to turn it over again to start the count – it creates the question “why face up?” when if it was always face up because that’s how the deck ended after you looked through it, it’s just a continuation so is justified (i.e. doesn’t create a question)
Good stuff though! Keep it up.

ParticipantWell done Rakesh.
I’m just trying this out now for the first time – it’s a very good effect.

JackKeymasterVery nicely done Lenoard. You can always emphasise they decided how many cards were in each packet, and because they decided where to stop, they also determined the order of the cards. Both of which are true. (If you wanted to really emphasise the impossibility of everything).
