        Hi All

The coverage of prediction style tricks in Week 1 reminded me of a similar effect which uses a ribbon spread switch-out.

This is explained in Stephen Hobbs’ Technical Toolbox – the move was created by Mr Hobbs and is based on an Alex Elmsley move which utilised a fan instead of the ribbon spread.

Have look at the video and let me know what you think.

Please excuse my rather dry delivery – still working on my performance style (and there is still a long way to go!)

        Cheers

        Andrew

This is a great effect Andrew – thanks for sharing it!

Stephen Hobbs toolbox is a great collection. From memory I think you can shuffle after the prediction is made which makes more sense thematically, to shuffle after you’ve looked through the deck.

I suppose the challenge is to see if you can come up with a method for doing this from a deck shuffled by the spectator! 🙂

For anyone interested in the Stephen Hobbs toolbox, I just this morning (now there’s a magic coincidence!) received an email from Vanishing Inc. to announce a re-release of the toolbox, with all proceeds going to their charity supporting young magicians (see text below).

Stephen Hobbs’ Technical Toolbox collects all fifty-two weeks of the original web site, which included more than 170 videos (6 plus hours of material) describing over 55 routines and 85 sleights and techniques. All of Hobbs’ original introductions and meticulous credits are included in the accompanying softback book. In addition, separate manuscripts for certain effects are included as downloadable PDF attachments. The seven DVDs and softback book have been made into a beautifully produced box set. This will expand your repertoire of card sleights and routines. If you enjoy card magic, we guarantee you will get your money’s worth!  But, talking of money, every penny of profit from this project is going to support our magic charity – sending kids to magic camp and supporting the development of a close-up theater for young performers in South Africa.
